Daddy's Drinking Again!

  • Dec. 24th, 2009 at 2:40 PM
Report: Kiefer Sutherland so drunk he had to be carried out of NY restaurant

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

At least he wasn’t driving this time.

“24” star Kiefer Sutherland knocked back so many drinks during a recent dinner at Lure in SoHo that he practically had to be carried out of the restaurant, a spy told us.

The 43-year-old actor, who has been arrested for drunken driving and is no stranger to public intoxication, “was having a tough time holding himself up and wasn’t making much sense, and was slurring his speech,” our witness said.

"The staff helped him stand upright,” the witness said.

The restaurant’s management declined to comment, and messages left with representatives for Sutherland were not immediately returned.

Sutherland’s dining partner, surprisingly, was rocker Jon Bon Jovi, who kept his alcohol intake under control and posed for pics with fans before leaving the restaurant to smoke a few cigarettes.

Ballon boy's parents sent to jail

  • Dec. 23rd, 2009 at 2:36 PM

A US man who triggered a major alert by falsely claiming his son was adrift in a helium balloon has been sentenced to 90 days in jail - and his wife to 20.

Richard Heene, 48, and his 45-year-old wife Mayumi said in October their son had been carried off by the balloon.

Six-year-old Falcon Heene was finally found hiding at home.

In court in Colorado, Heene appeared to fight back tears as he apologised to rescue workers and the community, saying he was "very, very sorry".

The judge also ordered four years of supervised probation for the couple and banned them from receiving any form of financial benefit from the case.

Heene and his wife Mayumi had pleaded guilty to charges that they carried out the balloon stunt to promote a reality TV show.

Bar for Christmas Eve?

  • Dec. 23rd, 2009 at 11:33 AM
Is there a good, fun bar/brewpub type place that will be open (and maybe doing fun activities) on Christmas Eve? My brother and I are the only two non-Christians in the family, and we are looking to go out and do something fun while the rest of the family is at services in the evening.

Birthday Dinner - Special request!

  • Dec. 23rd, 2009 at 11:23 AM
So today is my birthday, and my roommate's Mom is taking me out for a free meal. She wants to know where I go, but my usual haunts are just not all that thrilling to me right now. Now before you ready your responses, I should say that No, I am not looking for a place that gives birthday freebies. What I am looking for is a decent-to-moderately-expensive place that has a wide and delicious variety of healthier fare on its menu. Alcohol is not at all necessary, vegan options are a plus, and few to no stairs are even more of a(n admittedly side bonus) plus, as the mom has a hard time with stairs. Every year I gorge myself on delicious rich foods on my BDay, and this year I figure I'll change the pattern and eat something as non-belly-exanding as possible.

So, any suggestions?

Another Baby on the Way for Creed!

  • Dec. 23rd, 2009 at 11:13 AM

Creed frontman Scott Stapp and his wife, Jaclyn, are expecting their second child together next July, the singer's rep tells UsMagazine.com.

"When Jaclyn told me we were having another baby, I was overwhelmed with joy and again reminded what this life is for," Stapp, 36, tells Us. "We are so thankful for God's blessings."

The two, who wed in February 2006, have a daughter, Milan, 3, and a son, Jagger, 11 (Stapp's child from a previous relationship, whom Jaclyn has legally adopted).

This past October, Stapp and his band released their first album in eight years, Full Circle. It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.

It's sad to me that Creed's ex-wife is not involved in their child's life - but glad he found someone who loved him as much. ONTD, tell me some happy adoption stories, if you have one. For a pic of Little Creed, check out the comments.

Also, my favorite literal video other than "Total Eclipse of the Heart."

  • Dec. 23rd, 2009 at 1:00 PM

New information has come to light in the case of Courtney Love losing custody of her 17-year-old daughter, Frances Bean Cobain. Lawyers for the guardianship asked the court to seal documents relating "to a minor and allegations of domestic violence."

On Dec. 11, Love was stripped of legal custody of her daughter and the court has slapped a temporary restraining on her as well. The teenager is living with her grandmother and aunt.

There are many reasons that Daniel Day-Lewis is considered one of the finest actors currently working in the movie business, with one of the most important ones being his highly selective process in choosing film roles.

FYI Nine is a movie starring Daniel de Louis, Penelipe Cruise, Nicole Kidmen, Fergie and Kate Hudson )

With James Cameron set on tackling a smaller picture before heading back to the CG world he created for "Avatar," it'll be a while before star Zoe Saldana once again dons her motion-capture suit and becomes the elegant alien Neytiri. Following this year's blockbuster success of both "Avatar" and "Star Trek," what will be the 31-year-old actress' future on the big screen? Here's where we know she'll be headed in 2010 and beyond.

"Takers"
Once titled "Bone Deep," this shoot-'em-up heist flick is next up for Saldana, arriving in theaters in February. Co-starring Chris Brown and T.I.,(WHAT) "Takers" tells the story of a band of bank robbers and the detectives assigned to bring them down. MTV News visited the Culver City, California, set in October, where we witnessed some intense gunfights and got a taste of what's to come from Brown. "We're trying to survive without getting blown away!" he said.

"The Losers"

Based on a World War II-focused comic book series, this film features Saldana as Aisha, a badass loose cannon on a team of intelligence operatives. "She's just lethal — completely lethal," Saldana told us in August while showing off the black and blue marks she'd obtained while training for the part. Co-starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans and Columbus Short, "Losers" will arrive in theaters in April of 2010.

A "Star Trek" Sequel
J.J. Abrams' reboot of this venerable sci-fi franchise reeled in $385 million worldwide — you better believe a sequel is in the works. Zoe Saldana plays the sultry alien Uhura, who resists the advances of James Kirk and finds out she actually has a thing for Spock. So when might we see a "Star Trek" sequel? Said Saldana in a recent MTV interview, "I spoke to J.J. and Bryan Burk, his producing partner at Bad Robot, and they are still in the middle of building the script with Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci, and we'll probably be going into pre-production around this time next year."

Free the Trees!

  • Dec. 23rd, 2009 at 11:06 AM
I've heard this rumor about free trees on Christmas eve--basically, that the tree lots will just give them away because who's going to buy a tree after that, anyway?

I've never paid much attention to tree lots on 12/24 because I've never been in the market for a tree then, but since we just moved last week, our new place is totally devoid of any holiday decorations, and I think it'd be fun to get a tree to decorate tomorrow night.

So...anyone know if this free-tree business is fact or fiction?  Even better, know a lot that might do this (in NE out by 82nd would be awesome, but we have a vehicle so location isn't huge)?

Happy Festivus!

At first Bill Murray was a goofball, a lounge singer or a guy that tried to blow up a gopher. Graduating to movie stardom, he soon found a style of detached cool that worked like gangbusters, or ghostbusters. In movies like Stripes and Ghostbusters, he would make wry comments while the rest of his co-stars acted their parts; he rarely got involved in the drama. But it worked. A decade later, however, he could be seen giving an actual performance in Wes Anderson's Rushmore (1998). He was still funny, but he found a real emotional connection with his co-stars, and he was touching. more--bolded )

Ukraine’s Got Talent winner creates art in sand

This is stunning: it’s the winning performance from Ukraine’s Got Talent. Kseniya Simonova, 24, shows what happened in the Ukraine during World War II when Germany invaded (the The Great Patriotic War), and she uses sand to do it. Sand. It really has to be seen to be believed; watch it below.

Although it’s been on YouTube since June, I learned about it Friday night from Roger Ebert’s tweet, in which he called her “The Susan Boyle of sand animation.” It’s hard to disagree.

Music and Marijuana

  • Dec. 23rd, 2009 at 1:21 PM

Music Linked to Marijuana Use

Teens who listen to music that mentions marijuana are significantly more likely to use the drug, a new study finds.

The research was based on surveys with 959 ninth-graders.

"Students who listen to music with the most references to marijuana are almost twice as likely to have used the drug than their peers whose musical tastes favor songs less focused on substance use," said University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine researcher Dr. Brian Primack, who led the study.

"Interestingly, we also found that exposure to marijuana in music was not associated with other high-risk behaviors, such as excessive alcohol consumption,"
Primack said. "This suggests that there is a real link between the marijuana lyrics and marijuana use."

Among the study participants, 12 percent identified themselves as current marijuana users, with 32 percent identifying themselves as having previously tried the substance. The researchers analyzed the content of songs that the students reported listening to.

The average participant listened to 21.8 hours of music per week and heard about 40 marijuana references in music per day.

Researchers controlled for such demographic variables as age, race, gender, parental education and school grades in analyzing the data.

"Although it may be that heavy exposure to music about marijuana causes marijuana smoking, it may also be that those who smoke marijuana seek out music with lyrics related to marijuana," Primack said.
